7th Voyage Of Sinbad Original Production Harryhausen Roc Bird Maquette
7th Voyage Of Sinbad Original Production Harryhausen Roc Bird Maquette - The legendary special effects wizard Ray Harryhausen so dominates the features he's involved in that most people don't realize that someone else actually gets credit for directing his films, and he does the special effects. However, the films are always advertised with his name above the title. This is because his use of his "Dynamation" is so visually stunning that it overtakes the full production, making his films "Harryhausen" productions. One of his greatest was "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad" (1958) in which Sinbad the Sailor (Kerwin Mathews) and his crew must return to the Island of Colossa to obtain a piece of eggshell from the giant Roc, a deadly massive double-headed bird, to be used in a potion to turn his beloved Princess Parisa (Kathryn Grant) back to normal size after she has been shrunk by the evil Sokurah the Magician (Torin Thatcher). In one of Harryhausen's most famous and spectacular sequences, Sinbad and his crew must fight the gigantic Roc who is protecting its eggs. In the harrowing conclusion, the Roc grabs Sinbad in its claws and flies him to its mountain top nest to be used as "food" for its babies. Harryhausen would spend months designing his iconic creatures. They would go through hundreds of conceptual drawings, and then numerous models until he found the right look. Once satisfied he would create a maquette of the creature, which would be used to create the armature figures for the Dynamation stop-motion special effects. This is the actual original production maquette of the giant two-headed Roc from Harryhausen's studio, used for the production. It is custom mounted by the studio to show it in mid-attack flight. A truly rare and wondrous collectable! This original maquette comes from the celebrated collection of Jerry Neeley, well-known film historian, writer, collector and owner of the famous "Jerry's Video" in Los Feliz, CA. Customers, collectors and throngs of industry people would come from around the world to talk to Jerry, whose knowledge and memory were encyclopedic and also visit his collection. Jerry owned movie memorabilia stores in St. Louis and Los Angeles back in the 1960's before opening Jerry's Video. It also includes a Letter of Provenience from Jerry Neely's widow and co-owner of his various video and memorabilia shops. (Two-Headed Roc Bird Maquette is approx 10"x14"x14". )
