<B>7th Cavalry Discharge Document Signed,</B></I> "<I>W.S. Edgerly</B></I>", one page with docketing, 7.75" x 9.5", Fort Yates, Dakota Territory, September 12, 1881. This attractive vellum document discharges Private George W. Hanley of Tennessee after five years of service. Signed by Winfield Scott Edgerly, who served as a second lieutenant of "D" Company under Captain Benteen at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Edgerly was a, 1870 West Point graduate and would rise to become a brigadier general during the early 20th century. Fading and moderate soiling. The use of vellum and the graphics of this item evoke an earlier era. Good condition.
