This attractive vellum document discharges Private George W. Hanley of Tennessee after five years of service. Signed by Winfield Scott Edgerly, who served as a second lieutenant of "D" Company under Captain Benteen at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Edgerly was a, 1870 West Point graduate and would rise to become a brigadier general during the early 20th century. Fading and moderate soiling. The use of vellum and the graphics of this item evoke an earlier era. Good condition.
