7th Cavalry Colt Single Action Revolver. S/N 5337, circa 1874, U. S. Cavalry purchase, .45 LC, 7 1/2" barrel, early style script barrel address, early style ejector housing and ejector head, one-piece walnut grips, O. W. Ainsworth inspected. According to Kopek and Sterling’s study of U.S. military single actions, this revolver is in the range of revolvers issued to Co. M, under Reno’s command. This serial number falls well within the range of revolvers issued to Custer’s Seventh Cavalry. CONDITION: Revolver is smooth “gun metal gray” with touches of original blue on barrel, protected areas, and in cylinder flutes; frame and hammer show silvering case colors, pair of small dents on left of barrel, one on the right; all inspector’s marks are clear and correct, barrel address, patent dates and US mark clear and sharp, crisp serial numbers, serial on cylinder is 4870, same year manufacture, and condition matches the rest of the revolver; grips are very good with small amount of metal showing on toe and heel of butt and faint cartouche.
