7th Cavalry Autograph Collection consisting of six signed documents and letters. The 7th Cavalry Regiment was organized on September 21, 1866 at Fort Riley, Kansas as part of an expansion of the Regular Army following the Civil War. From 1866 through 1871, the Regiment was posted at Ft. Riley and fought in the Indian Wars. From 1871 through 1873, it participated in occupation duties during the Reconstruction period in the south before being sent north once more to the Dakota Territory. Lt. Col. George A. Custer's disaster at the Battle of the Little Bighorn on June 25-26, 1876, while a stunning defeat, demonstrated the sheer bravery of the 7th Cavalrymen: fourteen soldiers received the Congressional Medal of Honor during that battle. The Regiment was present at the Wounded Knee Massacre on December 29, 1890, the end of the Indian Wars.

This lot includes the following items related to this legendary unit: Henry J.
