7th Cavalry Manuscript Document, six pages with docketing, 7.5" x 12.75", Standing Rock, Dakota Territory, November 3, 1876. An amazingly convoluted, yet typical, piece of bureaucratic work in which two "unserviceable" horses are discussed at length in a flurry of departmental correspondence. The last page contains no less than three endorsement panels signed by adjutants. Numerous junior officer signatures, including two of those by Captain Edward Smith, who wrote Custer's orders just before Little Bighorn. Very good condition with splits along folds and light soiling.
