76: A Greek Terracotta Nola Statuette
Greek Art, 3rd century B.C. Statuette of a young woman, perhaps a maenad, standing, swaying gracefully, resting on her right leg, one hand on hip and wearing a chiton. Molded terracotta, with a circular vent hole on the back. A close example of the posture, somewhat suggestive, with some variations however, can be found in the Louvre and is given from Nola. Other stylistic features could situate it around Taranto. This figure is a rare and of high quality example, with a particular attention given to the head, which the thermoluminescence analysis confirmed the original affiliation. 8-2/3"H. Sold with a TL test.

Provenance: Ex-parisian collection Monsieur M. 1960.
