Here for auction is a gilded copper medal commemorating the famous Steamship Beaver, first steamship to arrive on the Pacific Coast and crossed Atlantic in 1835.

As you can see some like this one were used to make buttons, so selling as is, that said, a talented jeweler could repair this, or leave as found.

The obverse shows the S.S. BEAVER on the rocks. The remains of what is left is still there, in shallow water on the west side of the Stanley Park walkway in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

The obverse legend reads: WRECK H.B. Cos S. S. BEAVER, VANCOUVER B.C. / 1892

Exergue: BUILT 1835 / AD / COPYRIGHTED

Please not soldered post for a loop ring, used as a button at one time, as is.

The reverse legend: THIS COPPER / WAS TAKEN FROM THE / WRECK OF / H.B.COS / S. S. BEAVER / THE FIRST STEAMER / ON THE PACIFIC / ALSO / CROSSED THE / ATLANTIC IN 1835

The number 3620 is stamped on the side.

From 1962 to 1998 as a result of private sponsorship, these medals were presented to veterans of the Royal Canadian Navy and Merchant Marine for outstanding service and from 1998 to citizens in Peachland, British Columbia for services to the community

Medallion was minted in 1892, I don’t know how many were coined, likely a low mintage.

The artist die sinker was a C.W. McCain
