This amazing Immortal Cicada was carved from a piece of fine grained nephrite jade gemstone more than 2000 years ago. This divine cicada has a pair of budged eyes and a pair of beautiful wings. The cicada is crouching on a piece of leaf to sipping its juice. The carvings in its beautiful wings are very fine and detailed. It's in the classical praying stance, which indicates it original sacrificial function.
Ancient Chinese regarded cicada as the symbol of immortality. Because of its life history, cicada is regarded as a symbol of resurrection. The lava works its way into the earth, and, after a long subterranean existence of many years, emerges to the surface in the pupa stage from which the cicada is transformed.
