4pp. Confederate Civil War letter from James P. Nenney of the 6th Texas Cavalry. Datelined ''Camp at Cove Springs, Ga., Oct. 15, 1864,'' letter reads in part: “…I've been moving about for some time we have made quite a change in affairs in the Department. The army now is on the march to Tenn. the advance is above Dalton cutting the rail road as they go and will obstruct the Tunnel so that it cant be repaired if not blow it up. We are west of Roam [Rome] had a considerable fight yesterday [likely Darbytown Road], loss being slight our army will eventually stop at Decatur after going to Chattanooga and likely to Murfreesboro, Nashville, Columbia it is not known yet when we will stop I am in hopes that we will be able to drive them from Tenn. and hold them there…Gen. Beauregard is in comd of this army I want you all to get in the notion of leaving East Tenn and going to Texas Jas. P. Nenney Gen. Ross Escort. Ross Brigade, Jackson's Cav. Division, Army of Tenn. or Co. K, 6th Tenn. Cav., Ross Brigade.'' James Nenney was born on 11 January 1841 in Jefferson County, Tennessee and moved to Collins County, Texas sometime before the war. He enlisted as corporal on 12 September 1861 but was reduced to private on 26 May 1862 after the regiment was reorganized. He surrendered to Union officials at Citronelle, Alabama on 4 May 1865 and was paroled at Jackson, Mississippi on 13 May 1865. Letter measures 5'' x 8'' and shows negligible paper loss and some soiling. Overall good condition.
