This rare surviving 6 Southern Coin silver tablespoons, soup spoons were made by Andrew Ellicott Warner Jr from Baltimore, Maryland for the Rogers family in Baltimore. ?Mayflower? is a fine old pattern first being made around 1820. In 1820 Maria Hester Monroe, daughter of President James Monroe, was married in the White House. She chose Kirk 'Mayflower' as her silverware pattern. During the 19th century, Samuel Kirk?s chief competitor was the Warner family, Many of Maryland's prominent families, such as the Carroll's, the Ellicott's and the Ridgely's, were among Warner's customers. both father and son named Andrew Ellicott Warner. This service was made by the son after he took over the shop around 1850.



Each piece of this wonderful set has an engraved ?JJR? or "JJB" monogram in a foliate cursive style. The spoons were made at two different periods 3 spoons are marked A. E. Warner 11 and 3 spoons are stamped ?WARNER 11? on the back. The first set of spoons were made in the mid 19th century and the other 3 spoons date from the late 1860's early 1870's. These 6 pieces are in very good antique condition: All pieces show little wear to the tines and tips of the bowls. The spoons are 9" long.



Andrew Ellicott Warner (1786-1870) was the second son of Cuthbert Warner, the "founding father" of the Warner silversmith legacy in Baltimore. A. E. Warner and his brother, Thomas W. Warner (1780-1828), Cuthbert's first son, formed a partnership that lasted about a decade, interrupted ...
