Featured in this lot is a 6 1/8" Pre Columbian axe head, circa Woodland Era 1000 BCE - 1000 CE. The axe head has a wonderfully and professionally crafted beige flint construction that shows it is professionally knapped with a fully serrated head and a wide axe head end. The axe head shows a shape demeanor with the other side rounded but still knapped to a sharp edge, and it sports a bulbous main body. The Woodland period of North American pre-Columbian cultures lasted from roughly 1000 BCE to 1000 CE. The term was coined in the 1930s and refers to prehistoric sites between the Archaic period and the Mississippian cultures. The condition of this axe head is with no obvious signs of damage and shows no chipping to the material or blemishes with a good overall condition. The measurements of this axe head are 6 1/4" x 3 1/4". Provenance: the Owen D. Mort, Jr. Collection.
