5x Business Cards from the Liverpool & London & Globe Insurance Company Ltd (San Francisco) out of La Porte: 1) 2x large cardboard business cards, very intricate vignette of the company building on California Street, SF. Chief office in the center. Titled The Liverpool & London & Globe Insurance Company of England, instituted 1836 entered United States 1848, Pacific Department established 1852, office San Francisco, CA. With Resident secretary Charles D. Haven and C. Mason Kinne as special agent. Dixon Brabban, Agent, La Porte is printed in red on the bottom. Measures 9.5" x 4". Brabban was also part owner of the Bank of La Porte, joining Simeon Wheeler in the Bank of La Porte's ownership when he purchased the Kleckner brothers stock, where he became president. He was mason, tax collector (1883-1889) for Plumas and Lassen Counties and the portion of Sierra County north of Canyon Creek, general merchandiser (1889), and a Wells Fargo Agent (1888-1892). Brabban was also a resident and living at Secret Diggings in 1863, when he bought The Feather River and Secret Diggings Ditch from James F. Weber for $300 on October 29, 1863. 2) The Liverpool & London & Globe Insurance Company, Ltd, Pacific department California Street, SF, Maxwell & Son, Resident Agents, La Porte, CA. Black and red print on peach colored carton. Vignette of Globe in center with company name and "A Name known around the world" slogan. Measures 8" x 3.75". 3) 2x Business cards from the Liverpool and London & Globe Insurance company, Mrs. Maxwell and Son as resident agents in La Porte, CA. Black and blue print on white paper. Measures 3 7/8" x 2.5". Their building had burned down in the fire of 1919, with an estimated loss of $10.000. [Ref.: ROTM by J.E. Garvis] Mrs. Maxwell & Son are mentioned to provide supplies and services in the Plumas Independent from 11 Aug 1932, Page 4 and in the Feather River Bulletin from 18 Aug 1927, Page 7. Rare finds.
