ALS from Howard Renner of the 56th Pennsylvania Infantry, Company F. Accompanied by cover. Written in pencil and dated 8 November 1864, letter reads in part: ''…i reseived your letter…and was glad to hear from you i got the money i did not get time to rite Sooner for we was building our winter quarters and So i had no time…have you got that bond if you have that bond keep it…'' Renner mustered into Company F as a substitute on 1 October 1864. He was discharged eight months later on 31 May 1865. The 56th Pennsylvania Infantry was involved in some of the war's bloodiest battles, including Second Bull Run, Antietam and Gettysburg. During its three years of service, 215 men from the regiment died, 118 of whom were killed in action. Pencil letter measures 5'' x 8.25'' and runs 2pp. Small tears and separation at creases. Excellent condition.
