Full-p. engraved plate and 47 emblematic illustrations within text. Bookplate of Ambrose Lisle Phillips of Garendon in Leicestershire. Inscribed to Phillips by Mrs George Clifford "on the day of his marriage. July 25. 1833". A 17th Century signature on title page. Title page cropped at lower edge. Some staining, mostly marginal, only occasionally affecting the text. Some mispagination, but complete. Early 19th Century full morocco gt. A.e.g. Offered with a copy of the 1950 facsmile published by The Hand and Flower Press. One of the earliest, and rarest, of English Emblem books. Apart from the marginal staining, a very nice copy. £2000-2500
