Alexander Phimister Proctor. Wells Fargo commissioned this plaque for the 50th Anniversary of the Pony Express that occurred in 1910. The plaque shows a cowboy riding on a fast galloping horse going to the next relay station. The plaque is signed lower center by Proctor under the Pony Express Logo. The plaque is 17" in a diameter, weighs 15lbs. In very good condition. The plaques were made to mark the 60 of the original 190 Pony Express stations that were built between St. Joseph, MO & Sacramento, CA. Each plaque would be placed into a building, rock plinth, or some other suitable place along the route. This plaque is listed in the Bergmann books on bronzes, vol 4, pages 1184-1185. & numbered 4759. This plaque is a great depiction of an era in communications that only lasted 15 months. This was also the same that was the start of the American Civil War.
