Item Overview Description: Title: Geschiedenis van America Author: William Robertson - Rev William Robertson was a Scottish historian, minister in the Church of Scotland, and Principal of the University of Edinburgh. [Courtesy Wikipedia] Publisher: Yntema en Tieboel City: Amsterdam Year: 1778 Printing Information: Other - see description Binding Style: Softcover Number of Volumes: 4 Full Set: No Width: 5.25" Height: 8.75" Book Details: The volumes in this 4 volume set comprise the first Dutch edition of William Robertson's "History of America," or, as printed here, "Geschiedenis van America." The texts are by their original sprinkled wrappers with printed spine labels. These volumes feature 4 engraved folding maps depicting South America; the Gulf of Mexico and part of the Caribbean; and parts of Texas, California, Florida, and other areas in the United States. Additionally, Volume IV features an engraved folding plate depicting indigenous hieroglyphs used in South America. Condition / Notes: These texts display some typical indications of age and wear including moderate signs of rubbing, shelfwear, and chipping high points on their wrappers. The front cover of Volume I has come detached. Some handwritten notes, apparently from the period, appear on the flyleaf of each volume. The binding of each book is solid and intact and there are no loose pages. A fifth edition of these texts was published in Dutch in 1801 and is not included with this set. The text and folding maps show exceptionally well on the rag paper pages. - 10423-050518-IN-02197
