Rare Confederate Trans-Mississippi letter from Galveston A. Walker of the 4th Texas Cavalry, Company A, to his sister. Datelined ''Camp Marshall, [Texas], Nov. 18, 1864,'' letter reads in part: ''...they have been looking for an attack upon this place for some time I am very anxious to hear the result of the presidential election. I hope that McClellan will be elected if he is peace will be the result so far as I have heard he will carrie a very large majority. I have had no news from Genl Lee army for several days it is a matter of impossibilities to hear anything from Genl Hood's army I have no idea of when I shall get home for thy have stopped all furloughs except sick furloughs I have made 300 $ in the corse of 15 [months] I have just built a very snug house for winter...'' The 4th Texas Cavalry saw action at Glorieta Pass and New Iberia. Letter runs 2pp. Composed in both pen and pencil. Toning and some light wrinkling and wear. Separation along foldlines. Letter measures 8'' x 10'' Good condition.
