Badge, 49th Bengal Infantry (1917-1920), First World War-Bengal Regt., Silver Cap Badge, Obv: '49' surmounted by a crown, with a scroll bearing the unit's title "BENGAL INFANTRY", Rev: metal details and two loops to wear, 10.34g, 51.65x35.24mm, about extremely fine, Very Rare.
Note: In 1917, the 49th Bengal Infantry was formed in Karachi. In an unusual move, the unit recruited exclusively Bengali recruits despite traditional prejudices regarding their suitability for military service. It was demobilized in 1920 after serving in Mesopotamia as a garrison unit.
