STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (1980) - Phil Tippett Collection: Set of Three Printed Storyboard Binders with Handwritten Annotations - Three storyboard binders with handwritten annotations and sketches from the production Irvin Kershner's Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. These three red, blue, and navy blue vinyl binders originated from the collection of Phil Tippett, who created stop-motion animation sequences for the film's miniature and optical effects unit.

Each is labeled "ESB" with the red and navy blue binders also labeled "Copy #10 Storyboards Issue 2 Phil Tippett" and "Copy #7 Stop Motion Dept. Storyboards," respectively. Of the blue binder, around 15 pages depict the introduction of the overhead Tauntaun shot, as well as fearing additional extensive hand-written annotations and hand-illustrated sketches by Tippett in graphite and ink. The three binders contains a total of 1,364 printed storyboard pages featuring iconic scenes including the Battle of Hoth, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) piloting an X-Wing, and Luke seeing the image of Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) among the snowy planes of Hoth. This lot exhibits discoloration on the paper and labels, as well as ring spines separated from two of the binders. Dimensions: (each) 11.5" x 11.5" x 3" (29.25 cm x 29.25 cm x 7.75 cm)
