STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE (1977) - Hand-Drawn Tom Jung Half-Sheet-Style Artwork from Unknown Era - Artwork hand-drawn by posterist Tom Jung in the style of the U.S. half-sheet he designed to promote George Lucas' Star Wars: A New Hope. Commissioned by Smith, Smollen & Connelly to create posters for the film, Jung created the iconic Style "A" one-sheets in addition to the more uncommon U.S. half-sheets distributed by 20th Century Fox.

This collage-style drawing depicting Darth Vader looming over Princess Leia and a lightsaber-wielding Luke Skywalker on the left and Luke with Obi-Wan against a backdrop of Han Solo in the awards ceremony scene originated from Jung's personal collection and was previously offered at auction in 2019. While it is rendered in graphite on paper in Jung's hand, it is uncertain when Jung completed it, such as during the process of creating the original half-sheet illustration or at a later date. Notably, however, the back of the paper contains conceptual drafting that Jung would have used to help draw the images on the right side of the paper, and a note to himself to acquire images to have complete references of the X-Wing.

This drawing features handwritten annotations in the margins, including "Get actual image of Xwing Fighters" and "SW3987," as well as the conceptual mechanical sketches of the same artwork on the reverse. The paper exhibits a notable coffee ring stain in the right corner and discoloration, as well vertical and horizontal fold lines, and small tears along all four edges. Dimensions: 21" x 28.75" (53.5 cm x 73 cm)
