Intrigueing set of 4 American sterling silver spoons made by Towle, 19th century in the Georgian pattern. Each is inscribed with the name of a different American town/city. Measure 5 5/8inches long. Combined weight is 4 oz. Elaborate patterns with openwork and scrolls in the Grecian Georgian pattern. Flowers and garlands adorn Grecian column handles. Even the backs of the spoons have the finest repousse work flowers and crowns. 3 spoons are delicately inscribed on the back: Ann Arbor, Lansing and Jackson and these each have a very fine monogram , also on the back of the bowl (JDH IDH and RDH) while the 4th has a large inscription covering the front of the bowl: St. Joseph MO. The backs of the spoons have the Towle mark, STERLING; Pat 1898. One also has an embossed W. Arnold (perhaps the name of the retailer). Condition of these fabulous spoons is MINT. NO damage of any sort.
