<B>Four Postwar Documents Pertaining to Former Union Colonel J. William Hofmann,</B></I> commanding the 56th Pennsylvania Volunteers at Gettysburg. John William Hofmann (1824-1902) served as a Brevet Brigadier General in the Pennsylvania National Guard after the Civil War. This lot includes an 1873 ALS to the Governor of Pennsylvania and three manuscript documents relating to an 1882 bid by Hofmann to be elected Sheriff of Philadelphia County.
