4 ORIGINAL CLAYTON KNIGHT ILLUSTRATIONS WITH BOUND ISSUES OF 1927, ‘28 LIBERTY MAGAZINE SERIALIZING "THE RED KNIGHT OF GERMANY” BY FLOYD GIBBONS. 1) Original signed illustration by Clayton Knight, famous aviation artist of a WWI Uhlan soldier the Red Baron) speaking to a priest in a doorway with the caption "Father it is my duty to inform you - war has been declared.” This illustration was used in the June 25, 1929 Liberty Magazine article "The Red Knight of Germany” and shows Richthofen taking a Russian priest prisoner in the village of Kielce. Matted to 15”x9” sight size. 2) Three unsigned figure studies of WWI U.S. soldiers by Clayton Knight in pencil, unsigned. Two are about 6”x8” and the other is about 5”x9”. 3) A bound copy of Liberty Magazine’s 1929 serialized story "The Red Knight of Germany” by Floyd Gibbons, featuring the afore-mentioned Clayton Knight illustration, "My Fight with Richthofen” by A. Roy Brown, "Dirty Work at the Crossroads” by A. Roy Brown, "The Balloon Buster of Arizona” by Norman S. Hall, and "Leaves from My War Diary” by Gen. William Mitchell. These items are ex. Collection of Charles Donald, noted Richthofen historian and collector. Condition: Illustrations are excellent. Bound magazines show wear and discoloration with separated front cover. Otherwise appears good and complete. 4-50087
