4 Hamilton Fish Letters Signed Secr. of State
Lot of Four Hamilton Fish Letters Signed as Secretary of State “Hamilton Fish”. Each letter two pages, 7.75” x 10”, on Department of State letterhead, various dates July and November, 1876, Washington, to George S. Jenkins, New York. This lot includes a series of letters in response to claims for the return of back duties on woolen goods for various clients. It appears that George S. Jenkins of New York was a lawyer who specialized in petitioning the government on behalf of his clients for claims going back to 1860. Hamilton Fish (1808-1893) in addition to having served as Governor of New York served as Secretary of State from 1869 to 1877. He has signed each document with his bold, extravagant signature. Each letter bears the usual fold creases, and the ink has significantly bloomed on one of the letters, else all are in near fine condition. From the collection of Henry E. Luhrs.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
