Featured in this lot is a 4 7/8" Pre Columbian Woodland Period knife. The knife features a wonderfully and professionally crafted light chert and flint material that shows a semi serrated edge on one side and a sharpened edge on the other with a blunt tip on the bottom. The Woodland period of North American pre-Columbian cultures lasted from roughly 1000 BCE to 1000 CE. The term was coined in the 1930s and refers to prehistoric sites between the Archaic period and the Mississippian cultures. The Adena culture and the ensuing Hopewell tradition during this period built monumental earthwork architecture and established continent-spanning trade and exchange networks. The condition of this Pre Columbian knife is well preserved with a blunted edge maybe from previous use but doesn't show any signs of extensive damage. The measurements of this Pre Columbian knife 4 7/8" x 1 3/4" x 3/4". Provenance: the Owen D. Mort, Jr. Collection.
