This is a Victorian era officer's helmet for the 3rd or Prince of Wales's Dragoon Guards. The skull and peaks are composed of gilt copper. There is a high gilt copper comb decorated with an oak leaf and acorn pattern. There is a large bearskin crest on the comb. The plate has the Royal Arms of Great Britain with a Victorian crown at the top. There are battle honors for "TALAVERA", "VITTORIA" and "PENINSULA". There is a banner at the top of the front peak reading "3rd or PRINCE OF WALESS DRAGn. GUARDS". There are large gilt copper floral scroll patterns on the rear sides of the skull. The rear peak has a gilt copper scallop and scroll pattern. Large Tudor rose ear bosses suspend the red velvet lined chin scales with paw clasps. The front and rear peaks are lined with black leather. There is a tan leather sweat band with a red silk lining. The helmet is complete with a lions head finial that replaces the bearskin crest.

Condition: Very good, the helmet has a bright appearance with some wear on the high edges and several minor cracks on the comb. The bearskin is an excellent contemporary replacement. The silk lining is lightly stained and the sweat band has minor wear. The lion finial is very good.
