3rd Model Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle, #157873B, .44-40 cal., 24'' octagon barrel, blue finish, straight smooth walnut stock and forend, standard front and sporting rear sights, standard barrel markings, ''.44 Cal.'' to top flat at breech, as well as bottom of brass lifter. Mfg'd 1884. Condition is very good retaining approx. 92% thinning and toning blue to barrel and magazine tube. Frame retains 80%-85% thinning and moderately toning blue with light pitting and losses to finish at left portion of frame adjacent to hammer, as well as the upper tang. Case hardened hammer and lever have darkened but with light visible tones to both. 3rd Model dustcover fits less snug than new and shows very light pitting and darkening. Screw slots remain mostly straight and true with very minor aberations to the sideplate screw slots and the bottom right finger-spring screw. Buttstock retains approx. 40% original varnish with moderate scuffs and scratches and a few minor pressure dings to lower portion. Forend varnish has thinned evenly with light scuffs and scratches. Action remains crisp, bore is very good with very light general frosting. A nice straight original 3rd Model. Est.: $2,000-$3,000. (Antique)
