39 Star Flag Bolt of Cloth, Uncut.
39 Star Flag Bolt of Cloth, Uncut. This piece of cloth is an uncut of six unfinished flags. It is an interesting item for several reasons: the 39 star flag was never an official flag. In 1889, flag manufacturers believed that both North and South Dakota would be admitted as one state, however, both Dakotas, Montana, and Washington were accepted into the Union in November of 1889, and Idaho was admitted in July of 1890. So any 39 star flags were likely made in the fall of 1889. Many "vexillophiles" love to collect and seek "unofficial" flags, because of their rarity and novelty; while this is not a standard display flag, it nonetheless offers the collector an opportunity to own six 39 star flags printed on the same piece of cloth! The condition is excellent, aside from some slight "aging" throughout, namely frayed borders and one area of foxing in the center of the material. Measures 76.5" x 24".
