34 STAR AMERICAN FLAG. This 34-star flag is cotton, and appears to be handmade. There is a blood stripe - the canton sits on red rather than white, which may be intentional since this flag became official in July of 1861, with the admission of Kansas to the Union, and several months after Ft. Sumter. The official 34-star flag had rows of stars in 7-7-6-7-7 pattern. This one has 5 rows of 6 stars with the 4 others at the bottom. The stripes are machine sewn, with not all seams being entirely straight. The stars are sewn on both sides of the canton by hand. There are also numerous hand repairs, particularly to the fly. The flag has a rope hoist and is 33 x 41.5". Colors still bright, condition not bad although the repairs speak of use.
