Lot of 32 Vintage Science-Fiction Times Fanzines from the 1960’s

This auction is for a 32 issue lot of SCIENCE FICTION TIMES, (previously titled FANTASY-TIMES), a science fiction "newszine" published & edited by James V. Taurasi. Average condition is VG - Fine. Billed as "The Science Fiction Newspaper." FANTASY-TIMES was a long-running title founded by Taurasi in 1941, an important newszine which was the "Locus" of its day (in fact, Locus was started to fill the vacuum left by the ending of Science-Fiction Times). Under Taurasi’s editorship, it received the 1955 and 1957 Best Fanzine Hugo and nominations for the Hugo in 1956, 1959 and 1960. Taurasi was one of the creators of science fiction fandom as we know it. He was part of the leadership of the First Worldcon, one of the originators of New Fandom, founding member of the QSFL and the GNYSFL. He was active in fandom from the mid-1930s to the mid-60s. With co-editors including Sam Moskowitz, Frank Preto, Ray Van Houten and Ed Wood, Taurasi continued FANTASY TIMES through issue #270 in May 1957, when he changed the title to SCIENCE-FICTION TIMES. Under editors James Ashe, Anne Dietz, Walter Cole, Vincent McCarty and Andrew Adams-White, it ran steadily through 1969, with a tabloid revival in 1979 -- 1981.

#’s 396-449 are printed using the mimeograph process, meaning each issue had a maximum 500 Print Run – these issues are far more rare. Issues 451-465 are offset printed, and had a much higher circulation than previous issues.
