<Our item number 118557>1854-D $1 Gold Liberty. NGC graded AU-58. Only 2,935 struck. Light golden toning. Light even reddish golden toning. For those who want the briefest account, the low mintage makes this date famous. This beautiful rarity sums up nicely the experience of the gold consignment of which it is a part. The coin exhibits toned satin luster on a well presented and attractive planchet with only a trace of wear on the high points of Liberty's hair. It is the kind of coin that collectors expect to find in the grade. Elusive as a date, elusive in no uncertain terms. Even more is this true in high grades. Next, the strike. The strike is crisp in many areas, so-so in others. Some lack of detail may be noted at the central hair on Liberty, just below the word LIBERTY (but not on the stars). When describing the reverse, we see the usual disparity on the denticles as well as marginal weakness on the lower left side of the wreath. Some bidders might edge away from bidding when prese nted with an 1854-D gold dollar. After all, this is one of the rarest D-mint dates in the series struck at all the historic Dahlonega branch mint. Only the P-mint 1854 is at all common. However, as the population figure suggests, the coin is rather rare and deserves twice the honor because it is so fresh and lustrous looking. Pop 34; 29 finer at NGC (PCGS # 7526).
Estimated Value $6,500-7,000.

Our item number 118557
<IMAGES>

</IMAGES>
