1) NCO. A good example of a M1840 NCO sword measuring 39 1/2" over all with a plain 32 1/4" single fullered blade. The blade is marked "Made by AMES MF'G. CO. CHICOPEE. MASS." AND "US J. F. 1864". Solid brass hilt with brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has substantial original factory polish and a fine mellow patina on the brass. Scabbard leather is relatively good but there is a break just above the drag/tip. 2) CAVALRY. A fair US M1860 cavalry saber measuring 43 1/2" overall with a plain 34 3/4" blade with a single wide fuller and a secondary fuller near the spine. The ricasso is marked "MANSFIELD & LAMB FORESTDALE R. I.'. and "U.S L.W 1864". Brass hilt with a standard 2-branch guard and wire wrapped leather grip. Black painted iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a dark gray patina and what looks like chisel marks 5" down from the hilt. The hilt has a dark patina and the leather grip is worn to the wood in spots. Wire complete. The scabbard has been painted black and it appears that dents near the drag has been filled with an epoxy resin and painted over. 3) FOOT OFFICER. A relic foot officer's sword that may be an early excavated example or a field find. The sword measures 36 3/8" with a 30 3/4" blade. Brass hilt with a pierced foliate decorated guard and wire wrapped sharkskin grip. No scabbard. CONDITION. the sword is in relic condition. Blade is corroded and covered in dark rust. Hilt has a dark patina Grip is about 70% and traces of wire remain. (02-24442-3/BF). $500-800.
