A finely presented duo of 20th century colored botanical prints after the 18th-century engravings by Griffith Hughes, from his seminal The Natural History of Barbados (1750). Each plate depicts an elegantly rendered tropical specimen, one the Papaya Tree (Carica papaya), the other the Coconut Palm (Cocos nucifera), both framed with remarkable attention to botanical accuracy and aesthetic composition. These works bear the names of G.D. Ehret and Mynde, two prominent figures in 18th-century natural history illustration, and are inscribed with dedications to the Prince of Hesse and the Princess of Wales, respectively. Featuring detailed armorial crests and delicate coloration, they evoke the grace and scientific curiosity of the Enlightenment era.
