<Our item number 109885><B>Nero, 54-68 AD. AE Sestertius, Rome mint, struck c. 65 AD.</B> Laureate bust of Nero right, drapery at left shoulder. <I>Reverse:</I> Roma seated left on cuirass and shields; RIC 273 var.; BMCRE 173. Finely centered and sharply struck, with excellent portrait. Lovely green smooth patina, but with areas of roughness or brass showing &#40;mostly on reverse&#41;. In addition, a Sestertius of <B>Trajan</B>, Rome, c. 103-111 AD.: Laureate bust right, drapery at left shoulder / Fortuna standing left, holding rudder and cornucopia, prow of ship behind; RIC 500c. Coin like previous, with splendid obverse, but reverse somewhat rough. Inspection suggested, but both fine portrait studies.
