Autograph letter signed by Texas Confederate Abner S. Loden of the 28th Texas Cavalry. Loden writes to his wife on 14 June 1862, in part, ''Catherine, dear wife this morning being disappoind about Thomas going home to take these goods to you. I rite a few more lines to you leaving us both well an hope it will find you all well when I rote this other letter I expected Thomas to start home to take his pony home as he has bought another one for 80 dollars and he is worth 100. Thomas Holcomb has to go home and he rides Tom's pony to bring his horse back. It is a very bad chance for us to go and Thoams Holcomb can't take the goods and money to you so I shall hold it till I hear from you. You will rite to us that Peggy…Billy is bad sick and doctor…said for us to come soon…unless the war ends and that is uncertain, but do as you please about riting that, but that is all the chance for us to go home that I have knowledge of, so rite soon as possible and send the letter by mail. Direct it to Marshall po Harrison Co. Texas. So, I must come to a close. Direct to Abner S Loden Marshall po Harrison Co. Texas. / Col. Randalls Regment / Abner S Loden.'' 7.5'' x 9.5'' two-page letter has some water stains, making illegible small portions of the letter, else very good.
