MY FAIR LADY (1964) - Hand-Drawn Cecil Beaton Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn) Embassy Ball Costume Sketch - A sketch of Eliza Doolitte's (Audrey Hepburn) Embassy Ball costume hand-drawn by costume and production designer Sir Cecil Beaton for the production of George Cukor's My Fair Lady. After Henry Higgins (Rex Harrison) trained her to speak like a duchess, Doolittle attended the Embassy Ball, where Higgins introduced her to the Queen of Transylvania (Bina Rothschild). Sir Cecil Beaton, CBE, was among the most respected photographers and designers in 20th century fashion, and helped to create landmark costumes and sets for such classics as Anna Karenina, Gigi, and An Ideal Husband. While serving as the court photographer for the British Royal Family, in which he produced world-renowned portraits of Queen Elizabeth II, he won Academy Awards& reg; for both his costume and set designs for My Fair Lady.

This sketch of Doolittle's iconic Ball costume is rendered in gouache and grease pencil on illustration paper signed by Beaton and labeled "For Miss Audrey Hepburn," "Liza at the Ball," and "12610-877 Agnes." The paper exhibits tearing along the bottom and discolouration along the edges from age. Dimensions: 12.5" x 20" (31.75 cm x 51 cm)
