All the best architects, workers and craftsmen from Persia, Europe and the Ottoman Empire took part in the creation of this jewel.
In order to pay tribute to this magnificent monument, French Mint in partnership with Cartier to create a novel one kilo gold collector coin. This creation reflects the harmony of the monument shape, the elegance of its architectural lines as well as the splendor of the Taj Mahal’s set.
Each coin is an artistic achievement. The very high delicacy of the Taj Mahal’s outline is superbly rendered thanks to the work of Paris Mint Master Engravers and specialized workers from the fine metal striking workshop. The final touch is done by Cartier’s jewellery workshops with a high precision work: the setting of 68 diamonds on the dome of the monument.

A long graphic research task was undertaken by the engravers for the focusing of the coin’s obverse drawing. A plaster was then carried out by the master-engraver to reveal with smoothness the reliefs of the motive. Then, a brass gauge was designed starting from the plaster and was reduced to obtain the die which displays the modeling in hollow the back of modeled. Gauge and corner were taken again thoroughly manually by the master-engraver. The precision of its gesture and its perfectly adapted tools enabled him to reach the perfect modeling for the striking of such a coin.
Paris Mint is minting this coin in partnership with the UNESCO in order to pay tribute to the world heritage sites and monuments.
