Tintype of Second Lieutenant William H. Jones of the 23rd New York Infantry, Company D. Signed in ink to front, ''William H. Jones.'' Image shows the young officer in uniform, seated in front of a studio backdrop. Jones was commissioned into Company D on 6 May 1861 and mustered out on 22 May 1863 at Elmira, New York. With the 23rd, he saw action at Gainsville, Groveton, South Mountain, Antietam and Fredericksburg. CDV measures 2.5'' x 3.75''. Slight darkening to lower edge of image, otherwise near fine condition.
