.22 caliber Flobert style single-shot target pistol of belgain manufacture stamped “B.S. Happoldt” on hammer, circa approx. 1855 showing octagon barrel and Belgain proofs. The frame is typically European scroll engraved with fluted French-style grip. The pistol shows serial #4059 and the number 73 engraved at front of frame. The pistol remains in fair to good condition with a brown patina finish, some scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. The pistol is well signed on the hammer and the whole signature can be read when cocked. The action is good, the bore is rough. Shown in The Code of Honor: Dueling in America by Ellen N. Murry, which features the collection of Col. Orbelo, page 34. The signature is that of Benjamin Happoldt. From the William R. Orbelo Collection. Est: $1,000 - $2,000
