U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor rifle, .45-70 caliber, Serial #503594. The rifle is in fine overall condition with a 32” barrel with a ramrod bayonet. The barrel has a blade front and Buffington rear sights. Thebarrel and side plate show significant toning blue finish going to dark patina with numerous proofs and acceptance marks. The breech block and tang show vivid case hardening. The smooth wood stock is in verygood condition with a crisp “SWP” cartouche dated 1890 at the left rear of the action, a Circle P behind the trigger guard and other acceptance marks. The sling swivels are retained, the barrel bands are proofed, “U”and the stock ends with a smooth steel butt with trap. The bore is good and action is crisp. Est.: $700-$1,400. (Antique).
