Holland & Holland Grade 2 Back Action Badminton double rifle, .500-.465 Nitro Express caliber, Serial #19122. The rifle has 26” barrels, weighing 10 pounds and 12 ounces with a fine Walnut stock with a 14 5/8” LOP, no cheek piece, trap in the pistol grip and recoil heel plate. The lot includes a factory letter indicating the rifle was manufactured on February 12, 1908 as a special order by Lady Brocklehurst. The intrepid Lady Brocklehurst’s life was the subject of a book and feature film. The Lady explored and traveled the Sahara desert of North Africa by automobile during a 1910 expedition, shortly after the rifle was produced.
The rifle shows border engraving around the locks, with fancy scroll at the rear of the barrels and breech. The rifle features a three-leaf express rear sight and a flip-up front “Moon” sight. The action has scalloped fences at the rear of the action and an extended tang. The rifle is in fine to excellent overall condition as professionally refinished with mirror bright and crisp bores. The rifle is mechanically excellent, is on face and locks up tight. Proofed for 75 grains of cordite and a 480 grain bullet with disc set strikers. The stock is also near fine condition. The rifle comes with a luggage case with a Holland & Holland label in the lid, two full boxes of Kynoch .500-.465 caliber loaded ammunition (5 count) and one additional box of brass. A superior double rifle with an interesting history. Est.: $15,000-$30,000. (C+R).
