A 17th Century (or earlier) German Crossbow With White Staghorn Inlays. The fruitwood shaft of Renaissance form with pronounced swelling in center is 28 inches in length. The heavy forged iron bow is 20 inches wide.Finely forged wrought iron tiller of early form. This rare crossbow retains original flax cords tender with age and iron bow is loose. One large stag horn inlay missing on underside of shaft. The form of this bow isalmost Gothic in style. Small imperfections on fruitwood shaft. A very handsome early crossbow made for use with a crannequin showing its great age but retaining a most attractive and displayable appearance. Wouldlook great with a suit of period armour, wheel locks, or European matchlock. Estimate: 1000-2000
