Sharps Model 1851 Percussion Round Barrel Sporting Rifle in .36 caliber with 28” barrel, Maynard tape priming device, tang sight and brass mounts, S/N 1969. 1 of only approximately 400 produced and these goldrush arms were highly prized by Mormon pioneers, 49ers and early frontiersman. The metal surfaces show a light gray and brown patina finish with just minor erosion and pinprick pitting. Sharp markings and patentdates. The wood is very good with some minor dings, scratches and small imperfections but at least 80% original varnish remains with pleasing color and great wood to metal fit. There is writing in the finish remaining onthe barrel in block letters that we can not decipher. The action is tight and the bore is very good with well-defined rifling and fairly bright.
