“E.M. Reilley London” percussion “Green’s Patent” patent breech loading sporting rifle of Civil War era. Similar in styling to Whitworth rifle with a 24” round barrel, 3 leaf rear sight, and checkered walnut halfstock. The lock and hammer are lightly engraved with Reiley name at the center of the lock and address “Oxford St. London” unto the barrel. The breech cover is engraved en-suite and inscribed in script letters“Greene Bros. Patent, No 335”. Numbered “325” on shoulder of action also. British proofed. .58 caliber with good rifled bore. Sling swivel loops. Ramrod is missing. Scattered minor rust and erosion. The action is workedby a bolt mechanism and the Greene oval bore was a known importer to U.S. during the Civil War. This would be an excellent army for private purchase by an officer in military caliber. The condition is good to very goodshowing minor rust and erosion and normal age and slight imperfections.
