Rare original Adams 1846 U.S.N. “Fouled Anchor” powder flask, brass and copper construction, measuring 9 ½” x 4 ½” x 2 ¼”. The top is marked, “ADAMS” “1846” and “J.S.P.” inspection marks. The flask is infine overall condition with a small dent at the base, tight seams and a great medium patina. The brass charger, spring and spout are all in good condition and the sling rings are retained. This is one of approximately1,200 flasks made by Adams under contract to the United States Navy. Intended for use in priming cannons, few examples survived. These were still in service as the Civil War began and are rare in any condition, this isa fine example. Est.: $700-$1,400.
