Public Property marked copper powder flask. Approximately 2,000 of these flasks were contracted for by James Baker of Philadelphia in 1825 and were delivered by 1827. The flasks were intended for use with the Commonrifle of 1817 and could be used with Hall’s or older pattern rifles. The body is copper with a raised rifleman’s bugle on both sides and the words, “PUBLIC PROPERTY” beneath it on one side. The flask retains the brasscollar and spout however the spring does not function. The body shows numerous small dents with good seams and one of two carrying rings in place. Est.: $500-$1,000.
