Colt 1860 Army Fluted Cylinder percussion revolver, .44 caliber, Serial #6381 with Colt Factory letter indicating shipment to the U.S. Navy Yard, Boston, Massachusetts. The pistol is in very good overall condition with a highly desirable fluted cylinder. The metal surfaces show an even mix of original blue finish drifting to brown with sharp barrel address and patent markings on the frame and in one of the cylinder flutes. The frame and butt are both cut for stock. The barrel has a German silver front sight with dents and mars on both sides of the barrel. There is muted case hardening on the trigger and hammer with iron straps and a brass trigger guard. The smooth wood stocks are in very good condition with mars and dents consistent with service use. The bore is fair, the action is in time and works well. The Colt Factory letter confirms all features and indicates the pistol was shipped to the United States Navy Department Commanding Officer at the U.S. Navy Yard Boston, Massachusetts on June 8, 1861 in a shipment of 250. From the Ernie Sable collection. Est.: $2,500-$5,000. (Antique).
