Fine quality and early flintlock fowler marked “A Wein” at rear of banana shaped lock. The gun shows early wide butt with long strap extending ¾ the length of the top comb. Pierced and chiseled side plate andplaque at the wrist showing crown and portraits. The lock and breech are nicely engraved. Large sight integral with rear band and silver tear drop inlay at the front with post. The stock shows raised carving at thefore grip and silver wire in the butt. The stock is very good quality burl with fore end cap. Measures 65” overall with a nearly 50” barrel of approximately .60 caliber smoothbore or almost 20 GA. Correct stylehorn tip rammer possibly the original. All correct flintlock parts and work well. The metal surfaces have been professionally cleaned to European bright with well-defined edges and sharp engraving. Some wire inlaymissing otherwise stock is very good plus. We would date this arm about 1650-1670 and most likely made at a royal’s armory in Vienna, Austria. Est.: $5,000-$10,000
