Ornate and high art Italian Snaphance circa early to Mid-18th century. Measures 46” overall with a 31” barrel of approximately 12 GA smoothbore. High relief chiseled mounts showing portraits, scrolls and decorative motifs. The rear sight is located atop fancy 7” overlay that is matched to the chiseled scrolls and the front sight shows a similar 5” overlay at the end of the barrel with a silver muzzle band. The stock is carved with figure of boy blowing hunting horn with matching scrolls, florals, and raised carvings decorating most of the stocks area. The side plate is pierced and shows portraits and serpent matching to other motifs. The lock is finely engraved with hunter and his dog at the center, lady with florals “waiting” at the rear and matching decorative borders. Original flintlock parts. Action is working. The metal has been professionally cleaned in museum manner and edges and engravings are not rubbed out. The silver is crisp and well defined. The stock is very good with light cleaning and minor losses with small imperfections. An ornate and flashy royal quality arm. (Antique) Est.: $5,000-$10,000
