S” or “J. Mier” signed percussion half stock transition Kentucky style rifle with elaborate brass patch box with pierced wire work extending over 10” from end to end. Very delicate and refined styling seen on western PA and Ohio rifles. Measures 53” overall with a 37” medium to light weight octagon barrel of approximately .36 caliber rifled bore. Brown patina on the lock and the barrel shows some rust and erosion at the firingarea and behind the nipple but generally good with some pitting on the lock where it is signed “W.H. WOLF, PITTSBURGH”. The stock has been lightly refinished with minor restorations and tang repaired and restoredalso well done. The trigger and lock well. The stock is attractive with natural grain. Old wood ramrod included. A decent rifle with great patch box and 2 silver inlays in the left side of the stock hat are lightlyengraved with floral motifs. (Antique) Est.: $1500-$3000
